I've always loved being outside. No people, no distractions, no rules, pure independence. I began bringing a camera with me when going skiing and hiking to record what I saw, to share with others. It was very simple. Just click then share. This has grown to a passion for sharing my view of the world with others and although I use a DSLR and laptop, the principles remain the same. I now strive to capture the amazing landscapes around the areas I've lived and create images from the endless beauty.
My first "real" camera was a Nikon SLR with no special features. I soon found I enjoyed Velvia 50 slide film for its rich, bold color. It provides fine detail and it makes the perfect landscape images. Slide film is extremely sensitive to exposure so I learned to read exposures quickly! I even challenged myself by only shooting in manual mode and center weighted metering. I refrained from transitioning to digital because of the satisfaction I got from shooting, then seeing the slides on the light tableand finally in print. It was inevitable though, digital took over. Using a Nikon DSLR has allowed me to share more of my images, but I hope to return to slide film and manual cameras soon!
I'm fortunate to live in Utah now where I'm surrounded by amazing landscapes that fascinate me to no end. Deep snows, blue skies, red rocks and arches to name a few qualities. It is truly a center for adventure and is at times a harsh contrast to my previous home in Seattle.
In the NW, the rain brings life to everything making for wonderful forests, lush plant life, amazing flowers. Rivers and waterfalls are abundant and there is extreme snowfall in the Cascades in the winter. Summer brings the best weather with endless sunshine and stunningly beautiful days.
Wherever I live, I'm sure to have my camera with me:)
See you outside!
